ACOTAR One Time Box — TheBookishBox

You guyssss TheBookishBox did it again! Their one-time A Court of Thorns and Roses box was absolutely amazing!!! I loved just about every single thing in there!

The contents included:

  • A Shirt by theBookish Shop — I upgraded to a tank top because I needed a change. In case you can’t read what it says: Only you can decide what breaks you, cursebreaker, only you.
  • A Night Court Necklace that says To The Stars That Listen by fictiontea.
  • Mug designed by Bookworm Boutique that says When You Erupt Girl, Make Sure It Is Felt Across Worlds
  • An XL Book Beau created by Book Beau and it IS AMAZING — It’s my favorite quote in the entire series: Don’t Let The Hard Days Win
  • Art Print of Cassian and Azriel (the only thing I’m not really into in this unboxing) by DaniMarieDraws

Owlcrate Castles, Courts & Kingdoms Nov. 2017 Unboxing

Hi Everyone! I hope you all had a lovely Thanksgiving (if you celebrate) and found some good deals shopping (if you do that sort of thing)! Last week I received my November Owlcrate Box themed Castles, Courts & Kingdoms. The info beforehand talked about if you loved Lord of The Rings, Harry Potter and Game of Thrones that this box would be for you. They were not wrong, this might be my favorite box EVER by Owlcrate!

Let’s start with the hate from Owlcrate themselves — that’s Harry Potter Themed, has a pom pom and is perfect for the winter here in the Northeast (the hat says Expecto Patronum). I sent a video of this hat to all my friends immediately. It’s so cold here too that I’ve worn this hat all week to work!

Below is a grouping of all the other contents (and also the picture you probably noticed on my Instagram).

I was also really excited to see another notebook (because you can never go wrong with a notebook) inspired by A Court of Mist and Fury — I mean does the quote Don’t Let The Hard Days Win ever get old?!? This was made by Stella’s Bookish Art — I hadn’t heard of this vendor before but after this notebook, I’ll definitely be checking it out more!

The only thing I didn’t love and will probably just add to a bag is the Brooch by Juniper and Ivy Designs, but honestly I think it’s because it’s inspired by Leigh Bardugo’s Grishaverse which I’ve never heard of.

The book this month is The Glass Spare — I haven’t heard of it but based on the cover alone it would be one I pick up to read. Here’s a very short synopsis from Goodreads:

A banished princess.
A deadly curse.
A kingdom at war.

Oh and PS — you get a signed bookplate with this book and the books cover was exclusive to Owlcrate meaning it’s a little more sparkly compared to what you would find in the bookstore.

20171118_131141.jpgLast but not least are two of the smaller items in the box — one which made me squeal. Can you guess which one made me squeal? If you assumed the soap that IS IN THE SHAPE OF ELVEN BREAD then you guess right. I so happy when I saw something with so much detail. It was designed by Fizzy Fairy Apothecary and smells amazing.

Inspired by Game of Thrones and made by Geek Fire Labs the last little item was a lip balm, which is perfect for someone like me who lives in the Northeast — chapped lip season is about to start for sure!

All in All this box was amazing. I could not have asked for better items that not only I can use but were so specific to the season of weather most of us will have coming up. Next month is Seize the day (which I’m skipping because of holiday season) but I’ll be back with another owlcrate unboxing soon!

Anyone else get this box and absolutely love it as much as me?

The BookishBox Outlander One Time Box

Currently Listening to: Game of Throne season 6 soundtrack

You guys, this is the last EVER Outlander Box by theBookishBox — I’m still super sad over this, especially because I just love everything Outlander and the past boxes I’ve received have been so fantastic.

But this one? For being the last one ever was kind of a let down for me, which is really upsetting because I wanted it to be perfect. But I felt like something was missing, anyway here’s what was in the box and why I found it lacking.

20171009_135522.jpg

Shirt from TheBookishBox which says Because I wanted you. More than I ever wanted anything in my life.

So here’s the thing, it’s a great quote, it’s what Jamie tells Claire on why he married her. But, we are already on season 3 in the show, and there are 8 books…I would have liked to see one of the shirts (because there have been others and I’ve liked those sayings more) be from maybe book 2-8.

Necklace from TheBookishBox that is a stack of books that say: Outlander, Dragonfly in Amber, Voyager and Drums of Autumn — the first 4 in the series. I like this a little better than the shirt. I probably won’t wear the necklace but I’ll definitely make it into a Christmas Ornament or something.

Lip Balm from Cherry Pit Crafts. I usually like everything from Cherry Pit Crafts but I found the white chocolate scent meh.

Pouch by TheBookishBox. I actually really like this, it has Jamie and Claire’s wedding vows on it “Ye are Blood of my Blood, and Bone of My Bone, I give ye my Body, that we two might be One. I give ye my spirit, ’til our life shall be Done,” and has Standing Stones on the back. The pouch itself is really large but I think it will be perfect for my notebooks and things when we travel to England.

The last thing was a Wine Glass, also from TheBookishBox. It says: Outlander & Wine & Sassenach & Kilts. It is without a doubt, the smallest wine glass I have ever seen. I’m honestly going to use it for sipping whiskey because that’s closer to what it is size wise.

I don’t know you guys, I was really sad with this one. I was so excited and their one time boxes are almost always perfect that I’m shocked I didn’t like this one as much.

Owlcrate’s Mythical Creatures (Sept. 2017)

It’s that time again for another unboxing! The theme for September month was Mythical Creatures. At first I thought about skipping it but then a sneak peek of an item (more on that in a bit) made me order this one and let me tell you, I was not disappointed. I love that owlcrate always provides things that are for everyday use, it’s one of the things I love about this subscription (one of the negatives- ( I can’t get a subscription without a book).

So obviously the above picture (which might be my best unboxing photo ever) really shows off everything that we got this month — including a book sleeve which I’ve heard so many good things about and it’s why I didn’t skip this subscription! Overall I was really pleased with this box, the items were really thought out and I can’t wait to start using them.

Other than the book sleeve WHICH HAS MERMAIDS on it from Book Beau, owlcrate themselves made this adorable dragon coin purse seen to your left. When I opened it I was so ecstatic, it’s going to be perfect for when I’m traveling and is just another thing from these boxes that I can take with me anywhere.

Ink and Wonder Designs made this Game of Thrones themed bookmark. What’s great about this is that it’s made out of sustainable wood AND it’s small. Most of the bookmarks that comes in boxes are larger, so for small books they don’t work. This one is going to be perfect for books like that.

Some Percy Jackson themed bath salts are up next (lower right hand corner). Honestly, I’ve never read Percy Jackson, am I missing out? These came from The Soap Librarian.

Last up (other than the usual pin) was the die-cut sticker from Susanne Draws that features Hagrid and Buckbeak! I am so tempted to stick this little guy on my computer :).

The book this month is Before She Ignites and owlcrate subscribers received an exclusive cover (gold compared to silver). Besides for the book, we got the customary signed bookplate and letter from the writer Jodie Meadows. Below is the goodreads description of the book.

Mira Minkoba is the Hopebearer. Since the day she was born, she’s been told she’s special. Important. Perfect. She’s known across the Fallen Isles not just for her beauty, but for the Mira Treaty named after her, a peace agreement which united the seven islands against their enemies on the mainland. Mira discovers an explosive secret that challenges everything she and the Treaty stand for. Betrayed by the very people she spent her life serving, Mira is sentenced to the Pit–the deadliest prison in the Fallen Isles. There, a cruel guard would do anything to discover the secret she would die to protect.

I’ll admit, this sounds pretty good and it’s a trilogy — I love reading series instead of a standalone so this help but lately I haven’t really loved the books owlcrate has provided, I’m hoping this one turns out better than some I’ve gotten in the past.

Anyway, overall this box was fantastic. I’m back in Chicago as we speak with my book sleeve and coin purse, ready to take on the city!

Review: I got this one in one of my owlcrate unboxings. No, I would not have picked this one up to read if I had seen it at a bookstore — let’s get that out of the way, and I probably would tell you not to read this one.

Here’s the good:

  • I thought the idea was really cool
  • I liked that there were different kinds of characters

Yes, that’s it. Honestly it wasn’t that there was a lot of bad but there was a lot of meh. I felt like the book took off and ended and there was no connection I felt with any of the characters. Some of the descriptions weren’t vivid either, when I should be grossed out or disgusted, I found none of that because the descriptions and fear portrayed didn’t do it for me. I also found the main character, while going through a lot and showing us readers that you can conquer a bad home life, didn’t have enough personality.

Everything felt rushed, from the meetings, to the romances, to the fight to save the world.

While the concept was interesting, I didn’t find the story interesting and it’s honestly making me think whether I should keep getting owlcrate since I haven’t enjoyed some of their books recently.

What did you guys think? Based a conversation I’ve had with someone, I am not the only one who felt this way.

Reorganizing my booklife

I’ve already done a post on how I keep Track of my TBR, which you can find here. So far, this has really been working, I love that all the books I have to read are on shelves instead of part of a list. It lets me choose based on mood and maybe even cover.

My biggest problem lately is that I have too many books. Who thought would be a problem? At my apartment right now, I have over 120 books. This doesn’t include books I’ve given to friends and family to borrow, which means there are even more. Which got me thinking about how my books are organized and what will happen when I get those books back. So I decided to re-organize my book life.

wp-image-370858623

I just got a new bookcase so I felt like it was time to reorganize everything to a way that wouldn’t have my books on the floor anymore. So I categorized them in a way that made sense to me, they were as follows: wp-image-639031521

  • My TBR pile, which is the top shelf – I figured this would help me know exactly where to go to find my next book
  • Education/Travel/Classics/Non-fiction – all on one shelf, include books to help with my adventures, classic reads and books from school. I put nonfiction here too because it ties to educational
  • Magic – all books related to magic in some way, with some mystery (because of authors matching on there too)
  • Fantasy/Sci-fi is up next
  • Historical Fiction and some random (no other place to put them for now)
  • Outlander and Poldark I will probably need more than one shelf for these but for now they fit on one.

I left room on some of my shelves so when I read a book it will have a place on whatever shelf it belongs to.

This is the only way I could think of organizing my bookshelf. I love the shelves where they are color coordinated and everything looks so pretty but honestly that’s not me, I don’t have the “eye” for that.

How many bookcases do you have? How do you organize your bookshelves? I would love to hear from you! I can use those ideas for when I’m putting this one together!

Owlcrate Something Wicked This Way Comes Unboxing

Month: August

It’s that time again when my Owlcrate box arrives! The theme was Something Wicked This Way Comes and we were told it would have things to do with Harry Potter, Edgar Allen Poe and Sleepy Hollow! Owlcrate really outdid them this time. Only one thing in the box I was meh on, everything else was just fantastic. I was really pleased with it. Contents are below!

wp-image-1749521655

  • Let’s talk about the fact that we got TWO books this time around! The main book this month is The Hearts We Sold. I hadn’t heard of it but after really the premise it’s sounds really interesting and fun. The second book was Sleepy Hollow and short stories! I love everything Sleepy Hollow so I am really happy to get these in there. These two books are EXACTLY what I think of when I hear the theme will have some wickedness in it.
  • Next up was some Dark Arts Roast Coffee by Happenstance Coffee. I can’t wait to try it
  • Fountain Pen by Ody — every writer’s dream is to have a fountain pen, I know it was mine
  • Six of Crows bookmark by Treehouse of Books (I really need to pick this book up)
  • Edgar Allen Poe Socks by Out of Print I thought these were meh
  • Monsters of Verity Sticker by Evie bookish

Next month’s theme Magical Creatures AND you get a book sleeve. I’m pretty excited, I’m hoping for something niffler-ish!
